While being in Morocco I experienced a deep sense of loneliness. Not a sad loneliness, but the kind where you realize you are alone and it's not scary anymore. A loneliness that you can inhabit and enjoy with the certainty that nothing other than loneliness will happen.

A comforting sound every day was the call for prayer heard throughout the city, beginning at sunrise and repeated five times until dusk. It was an invitation to connect with yourself and with others through meditation. It made me aware of the presence of all those other bodies in the city waking up to practice their version of devotion. There was a certain precision to that daily ritual that brought ease to the experience of being a foreign body in a land of wizards.
